Briefing sessions on Student Evaluation of Teaching and Learning (SETL) in 2017-18

All taught courses should undergo evaluation using the Student Evaluation of Teaching and Learning (SETL) questionnaires. To facilitate the understanding of teachers and colleagues, the Social Sciences Research Centre (SSRC) will hold two briefing sessions on the implementation of SETL in 2017-18. Details are as follows:

(1) Professor John Bacon-Shone, Director of SSRC, will present this briefing session, targeted primarily for teachers. He will give an overview of how SETL will be conducted in 2017-18, and, in particular, an illustration of the online SETL system and the process.

(2) Ms. Linda Cho, Centre Manager of SSRC, will present this briefing session, targeted primarily for colleagues supporting the administration of SETL. She will give an overview of how SETL will be conducted in 2017-18 and explain the related work procedures:

Student Evaluation of Teaching and Learning

Decisions have been taken by the Teaching and Learning Quality Committee (TLQC) with regard to the following aspects of the Student Evaluation of Teaching and Learning (SETL) system:

a) posting of course effectiveness ratings on the Student Information System (SIS);
b) online administration of SETL for taught postgraduate (TPg) courses.

The implementation of online Student Evaluation of Teaching and Learning (SETL) has been extended to cover all undergraduate courses following the normal semester teaching schedule, and in 2015-16, online SETL will also be available for taught postgraduate courses following the normal semester teaching schedule. In this connection, the Social Sciences Research Centre (SSRC) will hold two briefing sessions on the implementation of SETL:

The Teaching and Learning Quality Committee is now inviting Faculty Teaching and Learning Quality Committees to submit, through the respective Faculty Boards, report(s) on student evaluation of undergraduate curricula for 2013-14. Please download the circular (document 330/315) and the report template at the links below.

Briefing Session for teachers on Online Student Evaluation of Teaching and Learning (SETL)

As indicated in the circular dated September 10, 2012 from the Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Teaching and Learning) <http://intraweb.hku.hk/reserved_2/tlearn/SETL2012/SETL_circular_(169-912).pdf>, the University will implement online SETL for all first year courses of both the 3-year and 4-year undergraduate curricula, and all Common Core courses, with effect from 2012-13.  In this connection, we have invited Professor John Bacon-Shone, Director of Social Sciences Research Centre, to present to colleagues an overview of the online administration process and illustrate the online SETL system.  The content of the briefing session will target primarily at teaching colleagues, but other colleagues who are interested or are involved in SETL administration are also welcome.  Details of the briefing session are as follows:
