A Mobile Course Tool (MCT) System to Facilitate Interactive Classroom Discussions/Quizzes using Wireless Mobile Devices
In this teaching development project, we aim to achieve the following project objectives:
- to carefully design, implement and test a pilot interactive learning platform, namely the inLearn (for Inteactive Learning) platform, as a prototype to actualize and realize the possible advantages of interactive learning in tertiary education of the Engineering or other disciplines;
- to thoroughly evaluate the benefits/shortcomings of our above homegrown interactive learning (i.e. inLearn) platform through online or paper questionnaires and interviews with students within the Department of EEE and possibly later extended to the other faculties when suitable funding opportunities arise.
After an initial prototype system was built on our server PC using the Java based technology, preliminary evaluations were conducted. With careful analyses, our work was published and presented in 1 international conference about the uses of IT in Education, for which local/ overseas educators/researchers have expressed strong interests in the system design of our inLearn platform as well as its potential applications and evaluation results. Later, our work was also invited for publication in the IEEE Learning Technology Newsletter.
