Support for Professional Development Programmes Through The Use of Teaching and Learning Video Scenarios

Abstract

The overall objective of this project is to develop a suite of customized videos that capture “authentic good practice” of discipline-based approaches to tutoring and demonstrating.  The videos are primarily to support the Certificate in Teaching and Learning in Higher Education, one of the main professional development programs offered by the Centre for the Enhancement of Teaching and Learning (CETL) and mandatory for research postgraduates.  After contacting Associate Deans of Teaching and Learning from various faculties, potential participant teachers were identified and finally seven teachers agreed to participate, resulting in the production of seven video vignettes showing authentic teaching, in a wide range of scenarios including lectures, tutorials and design studios.  These videos formed the main element of the resulting teaching resource, a Moodle site here for which students can self-register that included the videos, activities, prompts for reflection and templates for the students to complete and take with them into their own teaching practice.  The Moodle site can be accessed here: http://moodle.hku.hk/course/view.php?id=24313
