At the June 2011 meeting, Senate resolved that as part of the implementation of the university e-learning strategy, an e-learning Pedagogical Support Unit (EPSU) be set up under the Centre for the Enhancement of Teaching and Learning (CETL). I am very pleased to announce that EPSU is now in operation under the directorship of Dr. Iain Doherty, who joined the University on January 16, 2012.
The mission of the Unit is to support the University in achieving its strategic e-learning goals as set out in the 2011 “e-learning Strategy and Implementation” document (available from the website below). The Unit provides and co-ordinates e-learning pedagogical support to Faculties, monitors and evaluates e-learning initiatives, disseminates good practices and innovations in e-learning, and conducts research into educational technologies to ensure that the work of EPSU is informed by up-to-date knowledge and best practice. In addition, it will deliver a certificate course in instructional design and support faculty instructional designers.
