A Feasibility Study on Employing Online Learning Feedback and Monitoring in “MATH 1851 Calculus and Differential Equations”
Abstract
Students admitted to the Faculty of Engineering 4-year curriculum program must complete a two-semester mathematics sequence, with one of them being MATH1851 Calculus and Ordinary Differential Equations. Six weeks of lectures are devoted to Calculus while the remaining six weeks focus on solving differential equations. Due to the large enrolments, electronic learning platforms would be desirable. Two schemes have been tried, the I-Class and a primitive form of a MOOC (Massive Open Online Course). Elearning technology is developed for students to access the interactive modes used in the EdX platform to be accessible from their Moodle account. Videos are produced to illustrate the detailed solution procedures of illustrative examples. Preliminary responses from students are very positive.
