TDG – An Experiential Learning E-portfolio for Dental Undergraduates

Abstract

This project aimed to create an online platform for the purpose of capturing students’ clinical achievement during the provision of their care. In particular for the purpose of assessing and giving feedback on students clinical sessions when they are treating their patients. With this in mind a platform was developed that allowed staff, students and administrators to log in to a customized yearly University calendar that had an individual time table for each year and each group of students for their daily and sessional activities. For these sessional activities, staff would be able to log on to see the group of 7-9 students they would be supervising and at the end of the session be able to give a performance grade from a drop down menu and if appropriate give written feedback. If the sessional grade was unsatisfactory a compulsory self-reflection would have to be performed by the student. This pilot platform has been installed on a server and is currently being tested.
