Abstract
The project achieved its major objectives of developing a new six-credit first-year prerequisite course on “Ethics and Society, East and West” for the four-year undergraduate major in philosophy and trial deployment of the new course in the 2011-2012 academic year. The main outcome of the project was course materials for a new first-year introduction to Chinese and Western philosophy emphasizing the themes of ethics and society. These materials include a detailed course outline specifying reading assignments, learning outcomes, teaching and learning activities, and assessment modes and standards; detailed lecture content; course handouts; visual aids for lectures; course packet including original source readings; tutorial and discussion materials; and online course resources and course discussion forum.
